Decide first whether you need closed-back or open-back headphones. That single choice matters more than the brand.
Beginner
If you are buying your first pair for music, choose closed-back headphones. They keep sound in and noise out, so they work for practice, recording yourself and listening in a busy house. Behringer, Superlux and Roland make affordable closed-back models, and entry Sennheiser and AKG headphones give a clear, balanced sound.
