How to choose
Plan by audience size and the type of event. A wedding speech, a band and a dance floor need very different systems.
Beginner
If you are starting out with events, a portable column PA system is the most flexible choice. The JBL EON One MK2 and the JBL PRX ONE combine speakers, a small mixer and Bluetooth in a unit that one person can carry and set up. For lighting, a pair of LED wash lights from BEAMZ adds colour to a room without much complexity. Always check the power available at the venue before the event.
Intermediate
If you run events regularly, build a system you can scale. Add a subwoofer when you play music for dancing, and use a pair of full-range speakers or column systems for larger rooms. Turbosound iNSPIRE and Wharfedale Pro column systems cover more people evenly. For lighting, combine washes with a few effect lights and a simple controller, and use haze to make the beams visible.
Expert
For large events, design the system for coverage and safety. Line arrays such as the JBL SRX906LA and Wharfedale Pro XLA series throw sound further and more evenly, but they need proper flying frames, rigging and trained crew. Plan the subwoofer placement to control low frequencies, and use system processing to align the speakers. Lighting from Chauvet with DMX control gives repeatable shows. Check weight limits, power distribution and cable runs well before load-in.
