The Mapex Black Panther Design Lab Equinox 14 x 5" Snare Drum is inspired by Mapex’s acclaimed Black Panther drum series. Mapex have taken everything they've learnt about making great sounding, cutting edge snare drums. Then, using modern technology, innovative features, and good old fashioned drum craft - they add just that little bit of extra modern flair.
With a 6mm, 6-ply maple wood shell, the Mapex Black Panther Equinox snare drum offers a powerful, deep tone with excellent projection – perfect for any stage. The 2.7mm deep snare bed graduation offers a dry, articulate, and controlled snare tone. This tone is further controlled and enhanced by the 4-ply maple resonance rings. These help to provide the perfect snare tone for a range of styles.
45-degree bearing edge for more sustain
This is a very common cut featuring a sharp 1-ply thick edge that peaks close to the outside of the shell. Sharper bearing edges produce more attack and more sustain, which results in a generally more lively, “modern” sound. The added attack and sustain are due to less of the drumhead film being in contact with the shell. A sharp 45-degree edge also produces considerably more harmonic overtones, which makes the drum sound brighter. These added overtones make tuning a bit more challenging, due to the shell’s increased sensitivity to minute changes in tension.
