If you have been searching for an audio interface that sounds professional without costing a fortune, the Solid State Logic SSL 2+ MKII has almost certainly come up. SSL built the consoles behind decades of hit records, and the 2+ MKII puts a slice of that heritage into a bus-powered USB-C box.
What makes the SSL 2+ MKII different
Two SSL-designed mic preamps sit at the heart of it, with a 64 dB gain range and around 116.5 dB of dynamic range. That is a lot of clean gain for this price bracket, which matters most with gain-hungry dynamic and ribbon microphones.

Connectivity beyond the basics
Most interfaces at this price give you two outputs and one headphone jack. The 2+ MKII gives you four balanced line outputs, so you can feed monitors and outboard gear at the same time, plus two independent headphone outputs for separate monitoring mixes during a session. How it sounds
With the 4K circuit off, the preamps are clean and open, with tight low end and no obvious colouration. Engage it and the top end opens up and the midrange firms up in a way that flatters close-mic'd vocals and electric guitar. Across acoustic guitar, drum overheads and spoken word it stayed composed, and the converters never felt like the weak link.
SSL 2+ MKII vs SSL 2 MKII
The SSL 2 MKII is the 2 in / 2 out version. It has the same preamps, converters and 4K circuit, but two outputs instead of four, one headphone output and no MIDI. If you do not need MIDI or extra outputs, it saves you money. If you want the full feature set, the 2+ is the one.
