How to choose
Choose a ride by size and how much bell and wash you want alongside the main ping.
Beginner
A Sabian B8X or FRX ride around 20 inch gives a clear, simple ping that is easy to play consistently. Practise playing near the edge for a lighter sound and closer to the bell for a sharper accent.
Intermediate
Players wanting more nuance often try a Sabian HHX Groove ride or Meinl Classics Custom ride for extra complexity in the wash. Compare a 20 and 22 inch side by side, since the larger size usually adds more low end and sustain.
Expert
Experienced players choosing a Meinl Byzance Extra-Dry or Sabian HHX Legacy ride are usually after a specific dry or trashy character for a genre or recording. Keep the ride on its own stand at a comfortable height so bell, body and edge are all easy to reach.

About Rides
A ride cymbal gives a steady, defined ping used to carry a groove over longer sections, sitting apart from the wash of a crash.
This page has rides from Sabian, Meinl, Omete and other brands, ranging from everyday 20 inch models to larger 22 inch rides for a fuller, darker sound.
