Beginner
A beginner or parent buying for a child should match the rest to the violin size first, so the ME-046 suits the smaller quarter to sixteenth sizes while the AL919 suits a full or three-quarter instrument. Fit it so the violin sits level without the player raising the shoulder to hold it.
Intermediate
A student who has grown into a full-size violin should move up to the AL919 and adjust its feet so the instrument sits at a comfortable height for the neck and jaw. Recheck the fit every few months, since posture and technique change as playing improves.
