How to choose

Choose a microphone based on the source you are recording and whether your room needs acoustic help from a reflection filter.

Beginner

Someone setting up a first home studio can start with the X1 S Studio Bundle, which pairs a condenser mic with a shock mount for an easy all-in-one setup, and add the Reflexion Filter Pro if the room has noticeable echo. Keep the mic capsule covered with its included cover when not recording.

Intermediate

A home producer recording vocals or acoustic instruments can move to the sE2200 or the sE7 small-diaphragm condenser depending on the source, using the DM3 direct box for any electric instruments in the same session. Position the reflection filter behind the mic to reduce room bounce without needing full acoustic treatment.

Expert

An engineer building out a more serious vocal chain can use the sE8 pair for stereo instrument work and the DCM3 DynaCaster for a broadcast-style vocal tone on other sources. Keep phantom power settings correct for each condenser model and store capsules in a dry case between sessions to protect their sensitivity.
