How to choose
Evans heads are chosen by drum and by sound. Bass drum heads in particular come with different levels of built-in control.
Beginner
If you are replacing heads for the first time, choose Evans heads that match your drum sizes and your music. On the bass drum, an EMAD Clear head gives a punchy, controlled kick that works in most styles. Replace the snare head as well, since it wears fastest. Learn basic tuning so each drum sounds even.
Intermediate
If you want to shape your sound further, try EQ3 or EMAD2 bass drum heads for different amounts of control, and a resonant head with a port hole such as the EQ3 Resonant Black to make miking easier. On toms, experiment between single-ply and two-ply heads for more attack or more sustain.
