The sound is dark, but not in a muddy way - more like biting into an exquisite piece of dark chocolate - with just the perfect amount of warmth to fold the sound into the mix. The imbalance between the top and bottom hats has an inherent funkiness that screams of fusion grooves or laid back reggae phrases, but would probably be a fun texture in pop and other more creative genres, too.
