How to choose

Sort out reliable power first, then add switching and control gear as your board grows.

Beginner

A player building their first pedalboard should prioritise a clean power supply like the Strymon Ojai or Boss PSA230S2, since daisy-chaining too many pedals off one supply can cause noise. Keep power cables tidy and labelled so you can troubleshoot quickly if a pedal stops working.

Intermediate

Players adding more pedals often need a noise suppressor like the Boss NS-2, especially with high-gain pedals in the chain, or a line selector such as the Boss LS-2 to route two channels. Test new utility pedals in your actual chain order, since placement affects how well they solve noise or switching issues.

Expert

Complex boards benefit from a dedicated high-current supply like the Strymon Zuma or Eventide PowerMAX alongside a MIDI controller such as the Behringer FCB1010 for preset switching. Map out current draw for every pedal before finalising a power plan, since digital and analog pedals can have very different power needs.
