How to choose

Pick a soprano for a classic small sound or a tenor for more volume and sustain.

Beginner

A beginner is well served by a soprano model such as the MJ1 Java Series or an Art Series design, and simple habits like tuning before playing and storing it away from heat make a big difference to how long it stays in good shape.

Intermediate

A player who has outgrown a first ukulele might move up to a tenor like the MJ3 or MH3VNA for a rounder sound, and a model with a pickup, such as the MJ3 with pickup, opens up plugging into a small amp for practice.

Expert

A confident ukulele player may want a pickup equipped tenor like the MP1E Pearl Series for live use, and keeping several ukuleles tuned and stored consistently helps when switching between them for different songs or tunings.

About Mahalo in Ukuleles

Mahalo built its reputation on ukuleles that are easy to pick up and enjoyable for casual playing, with a wide spread of colors and finishes. This makes them a common choice for people trying the instrument for the first time or buying one as a gift.

This page shows the full ukulele lineup, from printed Art Series sopranos like the Monstera and Owl designs to tenor models such as the MJ3 and MH3VNA, some with built in pickups.
