How to choose
The most important choice with a classical guitar for a child is the size.
Beginner
If you are buying a first guitar for a child, choose the correct Valencia size: 1/4 for young children, 1/2 for around six to eight years, 3/4 for older children and 4/4 for teenagers and adults. A Valencia kit such as the VC102K or VC104K includes useful accessories. Bring the child to try it for size.
Intermediate
If you are progressing, move up to the next size when the guitar feels too small. Left-handed players can choose the Valencia 4/4 left-hand model. Replace old nylon strings to improve tone and tuning.
Expert
If you perform, a Valencia 4/4 classical guitar with a pickup lets you plug into an amplifier or PA. Check that the pickup sounds natural through the system. For small string players, Valencia also offers violin outfits in small sizes, such as the V160 in 1/16.
