How to choose

Beginner
If you are upgrading pickups for the first time, a classic EMG set such as the 81 in the bridge and 85 or 60 in the neck is a common choice for heavier styles. Active pickups need a battery, so make sure there is space in the guitar. Have a technician install them if you are not comfortable soldering.
Intermediate
If you already know the EMG sound, try the X series, such as the 81-X and 60X, which have more headroom and a more dynamic response. Bass players can use an EMG PJ set for a punchy, clear tone. Seven-string players need the matching seven-string models, such as the 81-7 or 707.
