Description

Yamaha EAD50 Electronic Acoustic Drum Microphone System

A well-miked acoustic drum set is a glorious thing, but to put it mildly, setting up all those mics can be time-consuming. That’s why drummers and audio engineers alike are raving about Yamaha’s EAD50 drum microphone system. By using the DSU50 stereo condenser mic alongside the EAD50 mixer, you now have a fast, efficient, and superb-sounding solution for not only miking your acoustic drums but also augmenting them with more than 2,300 sounds and over 250 digital effects — all powered by the SWX100 sound chip. These sounds and effects are a complete walk in the park to select and edit, since the EAD50 sports integrated LED rotary faders and Yamaha’s famous Kit Modifier knobs, and can also be controlled via the free EAD Touch app on your iOS/Android device. Expanded connectivity adorns the EAD50 in the form of five XLR inputs and 10 triggers (with five splittable), which can all be routed to eight 1/4-inch balanced outputs and two XLR balanced outputs to suit a broad range of situations for performing, recording, and practicing (and gigging drummers will absolutely love the stereo mini connector for their in-ear monitors). The EAD50 is simply a boon to have on hand when creativity strikes, thanks to its Looper and Sampler functions that enable you to hone your ideas to perfection, and the onboard Bluetooth, SD card slot, and Yamaha’s Rec’N’Share app let you add external audio and easily capture your ideas for sharing and collaborating. The EAD50 also utilizes MIDI Out and USB connections for more standard computer-based setups, and it includes a free download of Steinberg Cubase AI. Finally, with custom Live Set recall capabilities, the Yamaha EAD50 helps you retain your dialed-in drum sounds, tempos, and audio files with the press of a button.

One mic to capture it all

The phrase “drum microphone system” might conjure images of dedicated kick/snare/tom mics, room mics, overheads, and maybe even more. However, the DSU50 microphone that comes with your Yamaha EAD50 drum microphone system is all you need. This ingenious stereo condenser mic either attaches to a standard mic stand or clamps directly onto your bass drum hoop. From there, its balanced and flat frequency response captures every nuance of your kit. What’s more, while the DSU50 is usable with or without the EAD50, adding a second DSU50 to your EAD50 system will give you even more options for overhead or room miking options that simply sound superb when used with the EAD50’s various Scenes.

Set the scene

The EAD50 features 270 “Scenes” consisting of drum miking and sound enhancement presets that can solve many common problems all on their own before you change a thing. The EAD50 also includes an ample amount of user kit slots, so you can build your own custom kits and save your settings once you’ve got everything rocking just the way you want. Add in the EAD50’s Live Set function, which lets you recall arranged kits, tempos, and audio files with one button touch, and one thing becomes clear: the EAD50 makes it effortless to achieve optimal miked drums in any setting.

Easy to “app-ly”

With Yamaha’s powerful yet intuitive apps, you can quickly edit your drum sounds, record, and share your performances. First, the EAD Touch app makes editing effortless and data management efficient so that you can save and recall your ideal settings for future use. Then, Yamaha’s Rec’n’Share app lets you record, crop, and edit audio and video on any compatible smart device to share videos of you drumming along to songs from your personal music library. It can also detect the tempos of your songs, add a metronome, and even separate tracks for you to mix your preferred balance. Together, these two Yamaha apps make it easier than ever before to both create content and connect with the worldwide drumming community.

Who’s it for?

A whole lot of folks stand to benefit from adding a Yamaha EAD50 system to their setups, including but not limited to:
