Clarke Original Tinwhistle Black- Key D

The Original

The favourite musical instrument ofdistinguished tinwhistle players eversince 1843, this Clarke Tinwhistle can beconsidered the Stradivarius of tinwhistles. The instrument is still made of tin-platewith a wooden plug in the mouthpiece.Delicate operations continue to be doneby hand and, most importantly, RobertClarke’s traditional conical bore has beenretained to give the instrument its unique‘chiff’, sound. No other tinwhistle has thesame degree of ‘chiff’ as a Clarke.

A beautiful tone

“Crisp and responsive”The tone of the Clarke Tinwhistle is clearand flute-like, but it is also describedas ‘crisp and responsive’ by Bill Ochs;and ‘husky and sensual’ by Mary Bergin. All these descriptions add up to ‘chiff’.What Tommy Makem calls, ‘The greatClarke tone’. This is what makes a ClarkeTinwhistle unique. For all ages and abilitiesThe tinwhistle is a simple, traditionalmusical instrument; ideal for popular andfolk music but it is also suitable for a muchwider musical repertoire. It is just as goodfor solo playing as in ensemble with othermusicalinstruments; and can be played bychildren, youth or adults alike
