The Electro-Voice RE320 is a professional-grade dynamic cardioid microphone designed for both studio recording and sound reinforcement, drawing directly on the engineering heritage of the legendary RE20. At the heart of the RE320 is Electro-Voice's proprietary Variable-D technology — a design that minimises the tonal shifts caused by the proximity effect that plague conventional directional microphones. By maintaining balanced, uniform frequency response at up to 180° off-axis, Variable-D ensures that the RE320 delivers stable, linear tonal performance whether a vocalist is working close to the capsule or moving around the mic — a critical advantage in live and broadcast environments.

A built-in dual-voicing contour switch is one of the RE320's defining features, offering two distinct response curves optimised for different sources. The kick drum curve (30Hz–18kHz) is voiced with strategic dips and peaks — including a rise at 125Hz, attenuation at 380Hz, and presence peaks at 2.8kHz, 4.2kHz, and 7.2kHz — delivering an instant, punchy kick drum sound that requires minimal additional EQ. The general curve (45Hz–18kHz) provides a flatter, more linear response optimised for vocals, guitar and bass amplifiers, brass, woodwind, and percussion. The same humbucking coil technology used in the RE20 and RE27N/D suppresses electromagnetic interference, keeping the signal path exceptionally quiet at a hum pickup level of –130dBm.

Built from steel with a semi-gloss black finish and weighing a substantial 681g, the RE320 is engineered to withstand the demands of heavy touring and studio use. Output sensitivity is 2.5mV/Pascal at a nominal impedance of 150 ohms. It ships with a stand clamp (model 81715) and is compatible with the optional 309A isolation mount and WSPL-2 foam windscreen for demanding applications.
