How to choose

Since all three trumpets share the same 28 series build, choose based on finish and how you want the horn to look and feel in hand.

Beginner

A first trumpet player would usually pick the 28L Lacquer, a straightforward finish that is easy to keep clean while learning basic care habits. Oil the valves regularly and empty the water key after playing to keep the horn responsive.

Intermediate

A player with some experience might prefer the 28BFL Brush finish for a different feel and look than the standard lacquer. Keep up a routine of valve oiling and slide greasing, and give the horn a full clean with a snake brush every few weeks.

Expert

An experienced player choosing on finish alone might go for the 28SNL Nickel Silver and Lacquer, which stands apart visually from the other two 28 series options. At this level it is worth testing valve action and slide fit in person, since finish does not change the core mechanics of the horn.
