How to choose

Choose a single condenser for vocals or a solo instrument, or a matched pair for stereo recording.

Beginner

A beginner setting up a first home studio can start with the NT1 5th Gen for vocals or acoustic instrument recording, or the XCM-50 if working straight into a computer over USB. Record in a quiet room and keep the mic away from direct airflow to reduce noise.

Intermediate

An intermediate user recording acoustic instruments in stereo can use the NT5 or M5 matched pair to capture a wider, more natural sound. Position the pair carefully and test different spacing before committing to a final recording.

Expert

An experienced engineer working across varied sources can use the NT2-A or NT2000 for their flexible pickup pattern options on vocals and instruments alike. Store all condenser microphones in their shock mounts and pouches between sessions to protect the capsules.
