How to choose
Choosing a Meyer mouthpiece here comes down to the tip opening number and whether you want hard rubber or metal.
Beginner
A beginner on alto saxophone usually does better starting with a lower number in the Hard Rubber line, such as the Hard Rubber 4 or 5, since a smaller tip opening is easier to control while you build embouchure strength. Fit it with a softer reed at first and check the reed sits flush against the tip.
Intermediate
A player who has a season or two of experience can try moving up to the Hard Rubber 6 or 7 for more volume and a fuller tone, or test one of the metal AMR-6MM or AMR-7MM pieces for a brighter edge. Compare a couple of reed strengths on each mouthpiece before settling on one.
Expert
An experienced saxophonist can use the AMR-6MM or AMR-7MM to push projection and edge in bigger rooms or louder groups, switching between them and the Hard Rubber models depending on the setting. Keep spare reeds on hand for each mouthpiece and rinse the mouthpiece regularly to keep it responsive.
