How to choose
Choose acoustic or electric grade books based on which guitar you play, then pick the grade that matches your level.
Beginner
A beginner on acoustic guitar should start with Acoustic Guitar Debut, or try Guitar 2024+ Debut if working from the newer syllabus, to learn basic chords and reading. Practise a little each day rather than long sessions, since consistency matters more than length at this stage.
Intermediate
A player who already knows their way around the fretboard can move into Electric Guitar Grade 2 through Grade 4, or Acoustic Guitar Grade 2 through Grade 4, to add technique and repertoire. Work through pieces slowly with a metronome before trying full speed.
Expert
An advanced player aiming for exam standard can use Electric Guitar Grade 5 and Grade 6 or Acoustic Guitar Grade 8 to polish technique, tone and musical expression. Record run-throughs and compare them against the marking criteria to spot small timing or phrasing issues.
