How to choose
Pick the grade book that matches your current playing level or your teacher's recommendation.
Beginner
A new drummer should start with the Rockschool Drums 2024+ Debut book, which introduces the basic patterns and reading needed before moving up a grade. Practise along with a metronome from the start so timing becomes a habit early on.
Intermediate
A drummer with some experience can work through Grade 1 to Grade 4 in the 2024+ or 2018-2024 series, building up fill vocabulary and reading skill grade by grade. Keep a practice log noting which exercises still need work before attempting an exam.
Expert
An advanced drummer preparing for higher grades should use Grade 5 through Grade 8 of the 2024+ series to refine technique and musicality at exam standard. Record practice run-throughs to review timing and dynamics the way an examiner would.
