How to choose

Choose a passive DI for most instruments and an active DI for lower-output sources needing extra gain.

Beginner

Someone connecting their first instrument to a PA can use the MD1 Mono Passive Direct Box, which handles most electric instruments reliably. Connect the instrument to the DI box first, then run a microphone cable from the DI to the mixer.

Intermediate

A musician using a keyboard or stereo source can use the SMax MD2 Pro Stereo Passive Direct Box to keep both channels separate through the signal chain. Choose the MDA1 active box instead if the passive DI does not provide enough signal strength.

Expert

An engineer managing multiple sources at a show can use the MCD2 Pro 2-Channel Direct Box to cover two instruments from one compact unit, and keep an MD1 Pro as a dependable spare. Test ground lift switches on DI boxes when hum appears in a signal chain, since grounding issues are a common cause of noise.

About Samson in DI Boxes

Direct boxes convert an instrument's signal into a format suitable for a mixing console or PA system, protecting against noise and signal loss over longer cable runs. Samson offers both passive and active designs across mono and stereo options.

This page includes the mono passive MD1 and MD1 Pro, the mono active MDA1 for signals needing extra gain, the 2-channel MCD2 Pro, and the stereo passive SMax MD2 Pro for two-channel sources like keyboards.
