Infuse your music with the sound that launched countless hit records! The Harrison 32Classic MS (Mix Strip) packs the legendary Harrison sound into a high-performance, all-analog 19-inch rackmount channel strip, fortifying your studio with the signature sound and processing prowess of Harrison’s flagship 32Classic large-format recording console. Developed with modern hybrid workflows in mind, the 32Classic MS is equipped with a premium Jensen transformer-coupled microphone preamp, characterful lowpass and highpass filters, creamy-smooth 4-band parametric EQ, a balanced insert point, and an integrated stereo mix bus that facilitates summing multiple units together.
Flexible input section
The 32Classic MS channel strip’s flexible input section includes dedicated Mic and Line XLR inputs on the rear panel, as well as a front-panel combo input that is selectable for instrument/hi-Z or Mic. The microphone input is equipped with 48-volt phantom power, a 20dB pad, polarity reverse, and a tri-color status LED. Both the Mic and Line inputs feature independent gain controls for precise parameter settings and consistency across both inputs. Whether you’re recording, mixing, or mastering, the 32Classic MS provides the connectivity you need to optimize your session.
Harrison mic pre: the hitmaker
Vintage Harrison 3232 consoles were used by leading artists like Michael Jackson, Fleetwood Mac, Led Zeppelin, and many others to create some of the most iconic music ever recorded, and the boards’ high-performance transformer-coupled mic preamps imprinted their unique sonic signature on these classic hit records. True to its pedigree, the 32Classic MS mic preamp has 70dB of clean gain on tap, sufficient to handle even your lowest output passive ribbon mics, as it renders sources with the warm, rich, and punchy tone for which Harrison is famous. This preamp delivers crystalline clarity with a full low end, an open midrange, and smooth, natural highs, courtesy of the Jensen transformer, which exhibits a gentle roll-off at both ends of the frequency spectrum as well as a mild phase shift for a sweet, highly musical sound that romances any program material.
Characterful filters
Vintage 3232 Harrisons were equipped with lowpass and highpass filters featuring a musical 12dB/octave slope that were deployed to great effect on countless classic recordings, and the 32Classic MS channel strip includes these same wonderful-sounding filters. The HPF, sweepable from 25Hz to 3.1kHz, features a characterful 3dB resonant peak, while the LPF, which is sweepable from 160Hz to 20kHz, is perfect for removing structure-borne rumble and finessing your high end. The real magic, however, happens when you use the filters together with the EQ section.
32Classic EQ: pure magic
The Harrison 32Classic MS packs your rack with the coveted EQ section from the 32Classic console. Originally designed in the ’70s, this proportional-Q equalizer is spec’d with frequency bands meticulously developed to provide engineers with both broad, forgiving curves and surgical sculpting capabilities. Renowned engineers such as Roger Nichols (Steely Dan) and Bruce Swedien (Michael Jackson) have relied on Harrison EQ to shape the sound of some of the biggest hit records ever made. Prized for their sheer power, Harrison equalizers today are staples in world-class studios like The Village and Westlake Studios in Los Angeles and LSI Studios, Nashville.
Integrated mix bus
Ideal for hybrid workflows, remote rigs, and tracking rooms, the integrated 32Classic MS mix bus routes the channel signal to a stereo mix bus with panning, allowing outputs from multiple units to be cascaded together using the rear-panel summing connections and jumper cables. Designed to enhance workflows and supercharge your recording and mixing capabilities, this innovative feature adds exponential versatility to a channel strip that delivers iconic tone and prodigious sound-sculpting abilities, and makes it easy to build a Harrison recording and mixing system a single channel at a time.
